"Create Your Own PSP Frames"
Tutorial
Have you made all those
pretty frames and wanted to put them into your PSP frames folder but
didn't know how to save them? Well here is how you do it.
I'm starting from a frame around a picture because that is when you
decide, Hey! I like that frame, wish I could save it and use it
later!! |
The only thing you need is your
paint shop pro version 7.
I don't have version 6 so I am not sure if the directions are the same.
You can download this
picture above or use one of your own that you have framed using
another tutorial. I just made a simple frame for
example only.
You are welcome to use it and keep it if you like. :o) |
(1) Make
a new transparent image - the same size as the framed image. (Mine is
350x395
) Yours may be any size depending on the size of the image you are
using. Note:
To check the size of your
original image click on image/image information/
and the Dimensions will be listed there |

(2) activate
and copy the original image
(3) then
activate and paste as new layer on the transparent new image
you will now have two layers on
your new image. You can close the original image now,
you wont need that anymore
(4)
use your selection tool
to outline the picture area of the image, by
starting at the top left hand corner and while holding the left mouse
button down, pulling down to the lower right hand corner of the
picture.
When you have the whole picture enclosed in the marching ants just let
go of the mouse. |

(5) Then
edit/clear. If you didn’t get all the picture don’t worry. Just go
to edit/undo and try again until you get it right

You will know
when its right because there will be nothing inside your frame. Ok now
you are ready to merge your layers |
(6)selections/select
none
(7)layers/merge
visible
Now you must
decrease your colors to make it save as a psp frame file like this: |
(8)color/decrease color depth/ 64K colors (24 bit)

(9) check to be sure you
have the file associations like this:
| click on: |
File/Preferences/File
Format Associations

when the window opens you scroll down to Paint Shop Pro Image

if you don't see all (*.psp,*.jsl, *.pfr, *.tub) listed there
click on the Extensions button.
In here you can select and add, then repeat each until you have
them all.

Now you are ready to save as frame. |
(10) then 'save
as' .pfr
the way to do
this is as follows:
(1) file/save as
see where it says Save
in:
be sure to scroll to the psp/frames folder like this, so it
will save to the right place:
(2) under "Save as Type" scroll down until you
find "Paint Shop Pro Image (*.psp, *.jsl, *.pfr,
*.tub)" and select that one.
(3) Next, in 'filename', you have to type in your filename and 'also' type
in the .pfr extention or it will save as the default .psp.
for
example:
if I wanted to name my frame above 'fox' I would type )in the
line that says 'filename') fox.pfr and hit the save button. |
| NOTE: if you have
not decreased the colors to 24bit it will tell you not a valid format.
If this happens go over each step again to see what you missed. |
If it saves
(10) You may want to close and reopen your psp to
make sure it finds it. Then you should be able to open a graphic and
find the frame in your Image/picture frame/
